Governor has promised to facilitate meeting with Modi

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Friday said Governor Banwarilal Purohit had promised to take steps to arrange a meeting between leaders of the State and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of constituting the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

“When I asked whether he could arrangement a meeting, he promised to take steps,” Mr. Stalin told reporters after meeting the Governor on the last day of the ‘Cauvery Rights Retrieval Rally.’

“The Governor said he has understood the genuine feelings of the leaders and agreed to talk to the Prime Minister,” Mr. Stalin added.

When reminded about the DMK’s complaint against the Governor for “functioning against State autonomy,” Mr. Stalin said there was no change in the party’s stand.

“Since we have a State government that is not able to function, we have brought the issue to the notice of the Governor,” he said.

Mr. Stalin said the Supreme Court had delivered a clear verdict on the Cauvery issue and the Centre had the duty to implement the same.

When asked about the Union Water Resources Secretary’s poser whether Tamil Nadu was ready to accept an arrangement other than the CMB, Mr. Stalin made it clear that nothing short of the CMB was acceptable.

Adrama

Mr. Stalin described as “drama” the request made by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami to Mr. Modi for constituting the CMB.

“We do not know whether he has demanded the CMB or some other arrangement. Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan has said the Centre has not received any such request. I think the Chief Minister has made a request for saving his government. If the Chief Minister is really interested in constituting the CMB, he should have submitted the resolutions adopted in the Assembly and at the all-party meeting,” Mr. Stalin said.
