The hot buzz on social media is that Aruvi which is getting critical acclaim is not original and the basic concept is loosely based on the Egyptian film Asmaa.
A few on the internet say that the makers never gave credit to Asmaa. No wonder Aruvi was not considered for National Award, because of the resemblance with the Egyptian film?
The synopsis of Aruvi is how an HIV infected rebel young girl visits the sets of a reality show and stresses the importance of love and humanity in the society. The film also portrays the suffering of an HIV patient and how the society treats her.
If you look at the basic plot of Asmaa, it tells the story of a woman who suffers from AIDS decides not to surrender to the fatal disease. She exerts huge efforts in trying to recover or by helping those who suffer the same disease by giving them glimmers of hope (as mentioned in IMDB)
Asmaa also has a reality show angle and since many felt that the 'Solluvathellam Unmai' spoof is irrelevant to the story of Aruvi, they find a strange resemblance between these two films.
While a section says that the core plot of Aruvi is lifted from Asmaa, another group says that only people who are irked by (Vijay fans, Lakshmy Ramakrishnan's supporters) are spreading the hatred.
So our readers who have seen Asmaa can comment on the ongoing plagiarism charges against Aruvi, one of the most celebrated Tamil movies in the recent times.
